About The Event

Our association RuePublique, to launched a contemporary performance at Place République in Paris.  As part of International Women's day on March 8, 2020, circus artists perform a human CROSS, a living work of art, this has been and will be interpreted by circus artists on a fixed trapeze at women's day events to promote women's rights and break down stereotypes.

The artists perform a trapeze trick called the Cross for which the arms are drawn horizontally and their body become a living cross. The cross represents women victims of femicide and rape in France and abroad. It symbolizes both a cross for victims killed in conjugal violence as well as a symbol for victims of violence and rape, often denied by the justice system.

The cross would also be a symbol of support to; - Believe the victims often obliterated by stigmatism and the societies compliancy - Believe in their testimonies - Believe, as a way of questioning the judiciary system and how complaints are received by the police.  - Contributing to the eradication of such questioning techniques which, demeanour the victims. Various questions on the victim's sexuality and preferences have no place in the interrogation are need to be immediately radiated from the official procedure.

According to a study by the Collective; Feminists Against Rape, which operates a call platform for women victims; Only 1 in 10 victims lodged an official police complaint. 96% of the rapists are male and 91% of the victims are female.

We would like to make panels to inform the audiences of the following statistics that aim to break down stereotypes:

74% of the rapes are committed by a person known to the victim.  25% of the rapes are committed by a family member.  57% of rapes are committed against minors (girls and boys).  49% of rapes are committed without any physical violence.
